Recently started shooting competition and I'm having a blast (even though I suck.) Have a question about belts for those of you with some experience and knowledge.

I'm currently running a duty style belt, 2". However it seems 1.5" is the standard, with safariland coming in at 1.75". What's the advantage of the narrower belt, other than all cool holster hangers and mag carriers are made for a 1.5-1.75? I'm guessing maybe it has something to do with the beltloop rule that uspsa or ipsc has?

Another question, are all competition belts loop on the inner belt and hook on the outer? Because my current belt is the opposite, and if I did change belts my hsgi one wrap stuff wouldn't lock onto hook like it does loop. And yeah, I know hsgi isn't really competition stuff.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

1.5" is the standard for comp belts. Some people run duty style rigs for various reasons. Personally I like to have dedicated setups.

I've used the Double Alpha belt setups for 10 years. They've always been great and they come with an inner belt. I have 3 setup currently.

If you want something that can serve a dual purpose maybe the T.Rex double belt setup.

The Double Alpha ratchet is the top of my list if i decide to swap. I just don't know if i NEED to swap or want an excuse to buy more gear.

I'm running my holsters on qls adapters and with the tacos there's no adjustment for different mag sizes. Currently the gun rides on a safariland drop [the single strap] on a flex drop thingy.

The T-Rex stuff does look like good. Just got done checking it out. And they sell a 1.75 that would accommodate a cool holster hanger.

I'm partial to my GX holsters on BSPS Boss hangers. Though I think the Henning holster hanger is probably the best you can buy.

I've tried various mag pouches and come back to the Ghost pouches. They just work for everything. I have one belt setup with DAA pouches and while they are more adjustable I can't say I'd get them again.

I typically recommend this for anyone looking for a turnkey solution.

Good info posted above but I’ll chime in about the hook/loop. I have an Esstac belt that is hook on the outer and loop on the inner and all my stuff is mounted to the outer belt with one wrap. Esstac kywi rifle pouch, double pistol, and a flatline fiber IFAK. You should be able to flip the one wrap over to use it with a hook outer belt unless I’m misunderstanding

In the old days, Inner Belts were "hook" and Outer Belts were "loop". Safariland reversed that because when you took your rig off, the Inner Belt hooks caught on everything and tore up your car's upholstery.

I have enough Safariland stuff to last until I croak, but if I were starting anew, I'd get the "house" 1.5 inch belt set from ShootersConnection.com. It's heavy enough to be sturdy, but at an economical price point.

Have you shot with us on Tuesday nights in Fayetteville? PM me if you want info....

My only take on the comp belt issue - if you use AA or CR speed (both good) don't mix the accessories. ie., don't use c-bax hanger on a AA belt, they're both 1.5" belts but are slightly different thickness.
