This reflects the momentum of a very vocal subset of our society that unfortunately has influence on our elected officials at the present time.

I thought the removal was halted by a federal judge two days ago. I can't see the post from the OP. Did she get overruled?
NOPE: The take down is going ahead. The argument is that the monument can be reconstructed somewhere else and that it's removal won't destroy it.
And yes, there are four graves around the monument base, one at each side. The DOD "renaming" bill specifically states that NO graves are to be disturbed.
"A congressional commission in 2021 required the removal "of all names, symbols, displays, monuments, and paraphernalia that honor or commemorate the Confederate States of America … or any person who served voluntarily with the Confederate States of America" from all assets of the Department of Defense."
Key word there is "commemorate". So anything, other than a tombstone, that in any way "honors" the CSA is taboo.
