Some in congress are looking to push automakers into building cars with standard equipment alcohol detection devices, in an attempt to stop drunk driving. According to the mandate, it would require automakers to equip these detection devices to new vehicles as a standard safety item, similar to the government mandates that all new cars come with backup cameras, seat belts and airbags. Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is one group pushing this idea.
