CSA Knife

I picked up this old knife at an auction several months ago. If you look closely at the handle, one side is stamped CSA and the other side has crossed sabers and wheat stalks on the ends. It's difficult to see but visible. It's got some serious age to it. Any idea of the origin?

Yeah, that's obvious but I still don't know a thing about it. It's not a traditional Bowie knife. I'm thinking its a homemade knife some poor old fella took to war euth him. The CSA looks stamped. The rest is likely done by hand.
