Damascus Barrel Sore need Help

In cleaning this 118 year old shotgun I have run into a couple of canker sores... I am trying to sail this shotgun and want to make it as presentable as possible... what is it and can a get rid of it... please don't say penicillin ...

I would try 0000 steel wool with Armadillo Blue Wonder™ Gun Cleaner - Imagine... A Mirror Clean Bore!
I might first try it on the underside of the barrel where it will be covered by the stock. I have used it on rifles with blueing, works great.

Damascus is quite a different animal. I don't want to ruin 118-year-old gun...

Might try Flitz polish or JB Bore Compound and cotton balls with light pressure. Best of luck!

If you did have it removed, would you have to have the barrel etched in acid all over again to reveal the layers?

I would rather see 100+ years of finish wear than flat steel looking spots on the barrel.
