Daniel defense AR10 (.308 vs 6.5 creed)

That’s fair. Spotting through your scope... 6.5 definitely gets the nod.

But I think in this environment... you cannot discount ammo availability.

There’s only so many 6.5 makers... yet you can get 7.62 surplus from across the globe.

Here’s the great thing about the platform... can always barrel swap later to a different cartridge when ammo is more plentiful and cheaper.
The likelihood of surplus foreign 7.62 nato ammo shooting well/accurately at distance is minimal. Not to mention, the 147 to 155 grain 30 cals don't do particularly well at distance.

Anyone who makes ammo, makes 6.5 creedmoor, and lots of it. Match grade ammo is hard to find right now. Period. 308 and 6.5 are both gone quickly when posted.

comparing apples to apples, there’s just as much 6.5 quality ammo as there is .308. I wouldn’t shoot anything surplus through my .308. I treat NATO ammo as though it won’t even chamber in my rifle.

I mean... we’re talking an AR10 here, not a $5,000 bolt gun.

If you just wanna bang some steel at 200-300yds on the cheap... it’ll do just fine.

But he specifically states he is wanting to shoot long range. 2, 3 or even 500 yards is not long range. And a good AR10 is very capable of good accuracy, with the proper ammo.

I just ordered a JP barrel/bolt and had to make the same decision. I already load for both calibers in bolt guns and have Lapua brass in both calibers. I ultimately chose 308 because of how hard the guns are on brass. I knew I couldn't bring myself to run much Lapua brass through one and I knew I'd lose some brass on top of that. I knew there would be more quality used 308 brass available and so that's what I just ordered.
