Daniel defense AR10 (.308 vs 6.5 creed)

6.5 is a hipster round for them millenial metro sexuals. Probably shoot that **** with your nice groomed beards while drinks iced mocha lattes.

I’m more of a practical application guy, so I stick with .308. Much better penetration with less deflection through intermediate barriers than 6.5CM.

You want something strictly to punch holes in paper and ring steel targets at distance, 6.5CM is easier to use than .308. .308 will reach the same distances, but 6.5CM does it.......easier.

.308 has better barrel life. Not as big an issue with an AR10, where you can rebarrel yourself.

How do you think Creedmoor holds up as deer round? at 300-600 yards?

it performs great. If anything, with the huge bullet selection, it’s probably one of the best short action chamberings for deer. There are lengthy discussions of guys using them on elk at 6-700 yards. I personally wouldn’t recommend that (I’ve never hunted elk, so I am in the realm of them as these mythical beasts who need 338 lapuas to take down), but for deer size game it’s perfect. I’ve shot several deer with my 6.5CM but at roughly 100 yards or so, so not very helpful for what you’re looking for.

I would look at bullet construction, velocity, impact /expansion capabilities at varying velocities at differing ranges, and kinetic energy at the longer ranges you want to shoot. There are tons of data on bullet expansion and performance at various ranges. I’ll look some up for real life examples and ballistic gel examples. I’ll post back tomorrow when I find them.

Where the heck are you taking a deer at 600yds around here?

power lines and farmland in South Georgia. I have a field i sit in, in Monroe county that’s 300 yards. My boss hunts planted pines on his 300 acres, and he’s made several 400 yard shots on deer walking between rows and trails. He did that with a .30-06 though.
