Daughter's car had a nail in the tread of the tire. Local shop wanted $42 to patch the tire. WTH!

so patch.. take the rim off the car, dismount tire. remove item the nail or whatever, grind inside of tire, apply glue, light on fire, blow out, apply patch, remount tire, check for leak, rebalance tire, put back on car..
46 is a lot, but not that bad.
plug.. find nail or whatever, remove, run reamer in, insert plug, inflate tire.
10 or 15 bucks...
remember the tire guy is making 15 to 20 bucks an hour now...

This inflation bull**** is giving people the excuse to overcharge. I went to Dallas tire for my free tire rotation. I just dropped 700 on my jeep cherokee and 1000 on my Dodge Ram.
Now my main point. I took synthetic oil and a upgraded oil filter to have them change my oil while I got my free rotation. $55.70. What the hell???. I was thinking 20.00 or 25.00 for 10.minutes.
Then 1875.00 for a electric water heater. A very simple install. The unit costs less than 600.00 and 1200.00 to connect???.
I put one in 1994 300.00
260.00 for the unit and 40.00 for my stepson's help.

In Kingsland GA a local shop gave me an estimate to patch a nail hole in my daughter's Honda Element front tire. The lady told me $42 and I laughed and said "what did you just say?" $42 dollars but the patch is a lifetime patch. I looked at the woman and told her they are all lifetime patches and walked out. WTF! Bunch of crooks.

We went to a different shop and were charged $20 for the same lifetime patch.
A while back I needed some cheap Walmart tires mounted on our Kia Soul. When I finally got someone on the phone at Tires Plus the bitchy sounding manager told me $100.00 per side.
I laughed and said " So I should pay YOU $100.00 a side to mount tires that were $55.00 each? Just say you don't wanna do it."

I know her, LOL.

I avoid Tires Plus, especially the one in Loganville. Drove the car to shop, had to have it towed home.....unrepaired.

Groceries cost more, gas cost more, insurance cost more, property taxes went up, but they guy repairing your car, or the guy repairing your HVAC, or any service you need shouldn't charge more for his services. Here's an idea, invest the time to learn how to repair your car, HVAC, plumbing, etc. Then invest in the tools and equipment needed. That $42 tire patch will look like a bargan.

Here's another idea, go to Walmart buy oil, filter, drain pan, and any needed tools you don't already have. Be sure to buy a lift or you'll have to change the oil on your back. When you're done call a service like Safety Clean to pick up the used oil and filter for proper disposal. You did crush the filter in your pneumatic filter crusher to squeeze out as much of the old oil as possible. Be sure to keep records in case the EPA pays you a friendly visit.

Dude, getting a tire patched use to cost $10, now it cost $25. NOT $42. That's the point of this thread.
