Dawsonville Georgia Nuclear Aircraft Laboratory 1959........ Bet ya didn't know

Went into the underground control room back in 86. Had about a foot of water in it, stairwells going down were totally flooded.
The water was surprisingly clear till we disturbed the silt.

Entrance was a wide rabbit hole, not many people visited. We rappelled off the hot tower several times as well. Within a year the fence around the hot tower was fixed and the entrances were bulldozed and concreted.

Good ol' Lockheed.
They were trying to build an aircraft with nuclear powered engines, so that they could stay in the air 6 months at a time to watch for Russian nuclear missiles. Kinda like the nuclear submarines stay underwater off the Russian coast 3~6 months at a time.

It's completely flooded now, but here's what it looked like. It's still all intact....minus the reactor core. There are videos on youtube where people dug in and scuba dived down....and a couple that took Geiger counters with them to read the radiation levels.

Rode motocross bikes into tunnel before they blocked main entrance and flooded it all. We rode a long ways and went into offices, and other lab rooms, that was back in the early 70's.
