Definition of RARE

The use of "rare" when describing a weapon is abused by many, but maybe not intentionally. It could be that their definition is different from mine or yours. "Rare" to me means that the total production run of particular make and model was around 3000 units. However, that meaning can be thrown out the window on some models where very few have survived, I call those "collectible rare". An example of "collectible rate" would be the S&W Registered Magnum. There were more than 6000 produced, but not all of those have survived. The Registered Magnum is considered a rare collectible Smith.
Another example I will use is the M27 S&W revolver. There were many more 5" models of that particular gun produced than the 4" model. One would assume that the 4" would be more desirable from a collectors standpoint. Nah, the 5" is the more collectible, but neither models are "rare". Well, that probably confused everyone. And as always, what do I know?
