Dickey Betts RIP

Only Jaimoe left of the originals. So glad I got to see them perform in Macon on several occasions.
Saw Gregg at the City Auditorium in like 85. Year of two later I saw Gregg and Friends there. Dickey and Jaimoe were there for that one. The City Auditorium is a perfect venue for that type of show.
I dig Blue Sky and Liz Reid and a few others that I believe were credited to Dickey. But I can't stand Ramblin Man. So twangy and corny. I don't wanna speak ill of the dead but pretty much all I ever heard about Dickey was that he was a mean ass drunk. But then again he WAS putting up with a bunch of dirty hippies.

We were at the Great Southeast Music Hall back in the 70s'. Doc Watson was featured and about halfway into his set he asked his friend "Richard" to come a play a few. Well out comes Dickey Betts and the two of them pick some fantastic Acoustic songs. We saw him many times with the ABB and his red electric guitar. He will be missed. RIP
