Diesel exhaust fluid

Love the OBS. How would one gain power from a DEF delete?
Acutually quite a bit, the filters choke out the power, just as any obstruction does so. Engines are dependent on breathing, any obstruction eithee from the intake or exhaust side restricts the flow of air. Deleting the filters opens that up quite a bit. I know that in Big Trucks we see at least 2-3 MPG increase in overall fuel mileage, with a corresponding increase in power and torque. From 6.5 to 8-10 mpg is huge.
Typical Govt “fix” huh.

It’s also the main ingredient in most lawn fertilizer as it’s almost pure nitrogen.

Go ahead. Piss in the DEF tank. Imagine that will be about a $5k repair.
The original DEF was filtered bull piss and water. That’s not economical or practical so it’s made in a plant.
DEF dries within a few moments to a white crystalline powder, piss does not.
While pissing in the tank would likely throw some codes and not work as well, I doubt it would cause any real damage.
As Allsmiles Allsmiles said it’s a very computerized system and the labor is ridiculou tracing down problems. But it’s basicly just a series of injectors that washes the filters out. (Simplistic I know) It’s a stupid system that only the Govt would find as a good idea, but how else would you keep your base happy and still pass along money in the form of Govt contracts to your donors?

What Is your point? Mine was that Urea is the main ingredient in Piss. Wouldn’t matter if it was produced in the left eye ball, it still is the main ingredient in piss, and exits the body as such.
My point is that you were wrong, and you won’t admit it. same as yesterday.

You are talking about the SCR, which is completely different than DEF. The early 6.4 powerstrokes had DEF but no SCR. DEF itself is simply liquid being sprayed into the exhaust stream. While I am 100% in agreement with you that getting rid of the SCR will improve MPG, that is a completely different thing than a simple DEF delete.

I deleted both on my 6.7 as well as the EGR cooler, but left all the def stuff on the truck. The delete simply turned it off. The SCR and EGR cooler on the other hand were sold as scrap after the guy who bought the truck from me didn't want them.

Again, DEF has nothing to do with the SCR or DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). The SCR/DPF is cleaned with fire, not DEF. When DEF is mixed into the exhaust stream the UREA bonds with the NOx to make nitrogen and water. The DEF system and the SCR/DPF are two totally different systems.

Also, the Bull piss story is just like all the BS gun shop stories you hear over the years. A funny story, but completely based in BS (rather than BU). UREA manufacturing long predates modern DEF, and DEF is nothing more than UREA and de-ionized water. Urine has never been used to make DEF.

actually water is the main ingredient in piss. Urea is only 2% of pee pee.

DEF on the other hand is 32.5% urea and 67.5% de-ionized water.

But that was all bypassed, it’s there, but not being used. I just deleting DEF would cause the filters to completely clog up and the truck would likely have head and cylinder damage. They will not work independently, the DEF system is on your truck to fool any inspectors.
If it had DEF it had SCR, early systems had a system that used fuel to wash out the filters, (how’s that for efficiency)
First hit on Google.
“Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is an active emissions control technology system used in many advanced diesel engines. ... Hot exhaust gases flow out of the engine and into the SCR system where aqueous urea (known as Diesel Exhaust Fluid, or DEF) is sprayed onto a special catalyst. The DEF sets off a chemical reaction in the exhaust on a ...”

thanks…. I guess most of the power gains would be from the tune but from what I understand just the delete alone you would still gain about 15hp and about 85 ft lbs of torque.

100% of the gains would be from the tune. DEF itself has zero impact on HP or Torque.
