Dishwasher recs?

The new house we bought in Jan has a GE high-dollar dual drawer unit. (One of those far more expensive than I would ever buy new.). I thought it was a really neat concept when I first saw it. Easy loading and ability to do smaller individual loads. However, I have been less than impressed with the ability to get the dishes clean... the cheap one at our cabin does much better.

All you should need to lift is the front. The tub of the washer is higher than the door so the door should be fine once you get it in.
Well as mentioned, it's a contiguous U shaped counter so looking at it now, that isn't going to work without breaking it free from back splash. Hopefully I can just find one that fits. I did learn the first go around their listed measurements for install are not exact.

If your kitchen is open to your living room I would get one with a stainless tub. We bought one with a plastic tub that said 35 db (I think., whatever it was it was comp with the others). We could here it running in our bedroom with the door shut, we took that one back. They have gone up in price a lot. Our old one was around 175 and took 50 minuted to wash the load. Our new one was $450 and takes 2:45 to wash the load. They did something to make them more efficient but take longer to wash. When we bought it we found out that they were all more expensive now due to new regulations and were told by multiple people that they wouldn't last as long.
Kitchen is open and current model is SS tub. I rate it 'average' on noise. Can watch TV in LR with it running but generally use delayed start to run at night. Your observation about "more expensive and less durable" seems to be the norm now with everything. :mmph:

Yeah, you can still pick one up for $200 but it’s probably not going to have a stainless tub or be near as quiet. I think I sucked it up and paid about $400 if I remember right. The difference in how quiet it was really surprised me when switching from the previous $200 unit.
I was assuming $375-$400 for a decent 'budget' model.

Unless you can reorder the model that you already have, heading to Lowes with a tape measure is your best bet.

Whatever you get, buy the protection plan. Regardless of quality and price , the new ones break after 3 years. You can set your calendar to it. Ask me how I know!

Builder did the floors (original). It's a huge U shaped counter with tile backspash. No way I'm tackling lifting that counter. Unless you are saying just lift the front to slide it in. If I do that, door likely won't clear.
Home depot sells wood wedges, unscrew countertop and drive them in, install dishwasher, pull wedges and screw down countertop

Dishwasher brands that have served us well: Kitchenaid, GE

Dishwasher brands that have been troublesome for us: Bosch, LG

The simpler the better. I like stainless tub and extra sound insulation, but beyond that, I want the bare minimum of options on the machine.
