Do you still believe in charity?

Too many shady folks out there from churches to folks standing on the side of the road. Kinda hard to give to any of them money in fear of them being involved in a scam in some way, or they wont leave you alone after you donate, always begging for more....irritating as ****.
The only ones I always give to is LE and FF in person, the rest can piss off. I love to give stuff away, I am the one, who was in front of you in line at a drive through that paid for your order.

There are healthy ways to give and unhealthy ways to give. A lot of charity is just enabling the destructive behavior that created the problem in the first place. There are several organizations out there that do charity right... utilizing the old "give a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" principal. Thats the type of giving that I get excited about.

Yep. Homeless people can spend their money on booze and cigarettes because people are nice enough to provide food for them :D If not for kind people they would have to buy their own food and they wouldn't have money left over for vices

I've been burned before. Doesn't change the motivation or the intent. If they do wrong with it, it's on them not me. Having said that, I don't get burned twice.

^^^This

I've been a Scouting leader for years. Every year, we pay the costs for a few families that supposedly can't. We ask questions and try to verify before giving away money, but most families in need don't want to talk about their situation. Virtually every time we do it, we get burned. That said, it doesn't mean that it wasn't the right thing to do. As GeauxLSU said, it's on them, not us. Do what you think is right in your heart? If you get burned, find a different way to give next time, but don't stop giving.

Nope I dont, It was my money and I can do as I like with it, and seeing as I had given them over $150 in gas money and still am trying to help his wife get a job and well as look for me a job and place to live that I have done nothing wrong here! and if you want to pass judgement on others feel free to I don't have time for games.
Dude, you have no job. Where did you get 150 "of your own money" and then additional "your own money" to buy an xbox?

Does anyone else on here feel like money the recently sent to help a family in need went to buy someone an xbox? That's how I am feeling right now. Anyone else?

The direct answer to your thread title for me is YES, I do still believe in charity. Unfortunately however, the extension of this belief is not beyond what I can see and conclude upon for myself.

I choose to help by taking food, prepared meals, doing chores, things around the house etc.
