Does cerakote depreciate a guns value??

I reckon it depends on your intentions with the gun. To keep and admire, shooter, to flip, correct an ugly or boogered up finish that is presently on the firearm. I had a 5" Les Baer custom carry in blued steel a while back. I am not much of a blued steel fan so I had the entire gun cerakoted in all black. Turned out really nice. A year or so after having the gun done up, I put it on the market to sell her. I had several people tell me if it had not been cerakoted they would buy it??? Oh well, she moved on along to a new home shortly thereafter. As far as hurting the resale value, cerakoting didnt alter its worth.

If you are gonna keep her, cerakote away. If resale or trade is on the horizon, I would hold off and save the money. Just my 2 cents.

I think it's the failure of some to see how vastly cerakote is used. Many manufacturers are using it on higher end stuff straight from the factory now.

I had a NIB Legion that had a nick in the coating. Boxed it up and sent it to SIG and they replaced the entire gun. I've never had a Problem with S&W or SIG backing their products. Factory coatings are backed by factory warranty and in most cases held to a higher standard than a guy in his garage. Not saying that there are not quality coaters out there that may have a better set up than most. Just not rolling the dice.

If I were to do anything cosmetic It would not involve internals.

Cheap way
Expensive way
