Does Goodwill actually help the needy/homeless?

Just did some quick research of facts . Their district CEO's are paid $250,000 +.
They hire people with disabilities BUT with that that being said they do not have to adhere to the "minimum wage act" and pay them less than minimum wage "because they have disabilities"....So who is helping who with jobs:doh:

I think they actually are paid minimun wage but the company itself gets huge tax breaks for hiring those with disabilities. When I worked as a Starbucks store manager I never paid much attention to it, I think it is a WOTC form, but when my new hires actually started filling it out, you'd be surprised what the government considers disabled for tax breaks...

The Goodwill store nearby (NE GA) does hire people that most probably could never get a job anywhere else. Even the folks that come out to help you unload your donations are often have Asperger's syndrome at the least.

That said, I do prefer the Salvation Army and other local places. Even one the food banks and homeless shelters will take toys around Christmas. They almost always take coats.

I can't stand the slobs that use donation places as garbage dumps.

I like goodwill, there is one not far from me. I load up the trailer, take it up there and they unload a bunch of **** I do not need for free no questions asked.

My Grandfather was fond of saying, "Charity begins at home."

I always understood that to mean you should help those around you or people you know or cross paths with.

As in maybe you can do a little better than giving to Goodwill.
Just the other day a fella here mentioned a guy he works with, that has little to no clothes, it was in that thread for the Carhart jacket. Our member actually bought him some shirts.

I asked and found out he was a small short fella, I'm an XL. I have nothing for him, but maybe someone closer to Commerce is smaller than me and has an extra shirt or jacket in the closet.

I think that's what my Grandfather meant, that kind of thing......

Uncle_Dan mentioned it.
