I moved here for work and recently started collecting and shooting as a hobby because it’s legal and accessible in this state. I’ve been involved in shooting for years: I was a competitive shooter in my previous country, and I legally owned firearms there. In that country, civilians generally need to be competitive shooters or professional hunters to possess firearms. so firearms arem't new to me.
Before buying here I checked the laws. As I understood them, an alien legally in the U.S. is not automatically prohibited from purchasing firearms if they meet the statutory exceptions (for example, possession of a valid hunting license or permit). That’s why I obtained a Georgia hunting license, went to a licensed dealer, completed the required checks, and the dealer approved my purchase. The relevant statutes and regs I looked at include 18 U.S.C. § 922(d)(5), (g)(5), (y)(2) and 27 C.F.R. §§ 478.11, 478.32(a)(5).
I’m fully aware firearms are serious and dangerous. That’s exactly why I’ve been careful I don’t want trouble, I don’t want to harm anyone, and I intend to follow all applicable laws and rules. I posted here looking at used firearms because many vintage/classic guns are sold used and often at lower prices than new. That’s what I’m interested in, not anything shady.
I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable and I don’t want this community to be a place where illegal activity happens.

Someone should form an agency to tell other people they can't do what I can do because I don't know if they're responsible enough.
If you have some kind of Alien resident number (typically called an "A#") and you're a legal resident in the US, you're good to go as long as you COULD pass a 4473, and meet other state-applicable requirements.
I'm here on a Green Card. I'm a 100% legal resident. I can buy as many guns as I like from an FFL or from a sketchy guy in the car park of a Home Depot provided it's in GA (because that's the state I live in) and the seller is prepared to sell to me for whatever criteria they want to apply - which could be sensible, arbitrary or outright nonsensical.
Personally, I wouldn't rely on just having a hunting permit alone to establish legal ownership of a firearm because of the federal dimension, simply because of the hassle factor if you have to deal with someone whose interpretation of local law may be incomplete.

I understand how it could be uncomfortable and worrying when it comes to aliens. I also believe that crimes and problems caused by foreigners are serious issues that must be prevented.
