Don't be stupid......

What is well armed? IMO it's an Ohio-Class Nuclear Submarine that can carry 24 Trident II submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) which can be fired from underwater to strike at targets more than seven thousand miles away. What can that do? As a Trident II ballistic missile reenters the atmosphere at speeds of up to Mach 24, it splits into up to eight independent reentry vehicles, each with either a 100 or 475 kiloton nuclear warhead. In short, a full "high capacity" firing from an Ohio-class submarine—which can be launched in less than one minute—could unleash up to 192 nuclear warheads to wipe twenty-four geographically dispersed cities off the map. President Trump deployed two of them conveniently closer to Russia this month... But what about the full size pistol with 2 extra loaded mags? A revolver or even an AR? Well, "any port in a storm". Something always beats nothing. But the best solution? Try moving to either a good neighborhood or rural area - you'll tremendously lower your risk exposure to nearly all violent crime.
what does this got to do with the post

When it comes to ammo, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Three armed aggressors versus one woman with a high capacity weapon. Might have a different outcome with six beans in a wheel.

Technically speaking, this is all admitedly true. The problem with this "better to have it..." mindset, is that it often leads to absurd leaps in logic and plausibility, and we get the laughable clowns we've all seen at Walmart, dressed in full tactical load out, like they're headed to a John Wick reenactment. There comes a point where we hit the "point of diminishing returns", and we're just strapping on more weight and bulk, just to be strapping on more weight and bulk.
Carrying a pistol is about mitigating risk, within reason, and reasonably and statistically speaking, an economical, comfortable Airweight .38 or pocket .380, is going to be more than sufficient.
And for the inevitable arguments coming from those that insist on regularly lugging multiple 17-rd reloads, to have dinner with their wife at the Olive Garden, why not wear a trench coat, over a full load-bearing tactical vest, with multiple 30-rd mags, and a Draco AK hanging from each shoulder? Because, technically speaking, there actually IS a possibility that anything less could result in you ending up on a slab in the morgue.
Or would that degree of "preparedness" simply be paranoid and ridiculous ?

I think this is a tough and individual choice that one needs to make based on circumstances. When I lived in the worst part of a bad town I typically carried a single pistol with no reloads. Living in the nicest part of a good town I carried nothing inside my actual house. Guess which had a double homicide in the front yard?

Now I'm mostly content to be armed with something I can hit somebody with at a reasonable distance. Inside the house that's an airlite 351pd, 100% of the time I'm not showering or getting laid. Should be enough to either get the person out of my yard or get me to my rifle. Out in the "world" it's at least that, probably a 15 round 9mm with no on-body reloads.

The older I get the less worried I get about being murdered by a bad guy, and more worried about heart disease and prostate cancer. Plus statistically I'm unlikely to be involved in a murder again, so that's cool.

(I know how statistics work this is hyperbole)

Read an article recently that said if you live long enough, you'll die from prostate cancer, or at least with it.
Going today for day three of a five day radiation treatment for mine...

A LOT of great comments, insights on this thread. Some not so much. Best thought is carry what your comfortable with based on experiences, current mindset, current skill level. It’s personal so who cares what others do? I will add that every single time I teach a course, several folks say: “ I’ve never thought of that, I’ve never seen that before, I didn’t know that was possible” etc So this brings us back to the above ….current capabilities ??? I’ve written, tested, and implemented undercover lesson plans, concealed carry trainings, on/off duty issues for LEO’s, hand to hand skills, and much more…. All for DOJ, NSW, Army CID, FLETC, State of GA Post, and privately. Final thoughts… don’t limit yourself to what you think you know, probably more out there… I’ve done U/C work while armed only with a 5-shot, as well as auto pistol with spare mag. But you can bet I KNEW THE DIFFERENCE lol
