Duramax Diesel Questions

Its only got 74000 miles on it. You would get a truck with a lot less wear. If you put 20k miles a year on itit would take you 5-6 years to get to were these other trucks already are. Resale would be much better also.

I'd be more concerned about the miles if it was a gas motor, and I don't want a car payment if I can avoid it.

I test drove smoke stacks this morning and wasn't impressed, I think I just hate Fords. After some thought I think I could probably get away with a Silverado/Sierra 1500 Z71 with a 5.3 V8. I think that will be enough to do what I want to do and get improved gas mileage over my old truck ( 10 mpg or so).

I've never owned a truck smaller than a 2500, hard to accept that I may not need one anymore.

Probably the smartest thing you can do. Miles don't mean the same as they did pre 1997. I have a 1500 with 225k and she still runs strong. I just sold a 03 tahoe w/216k and I use it to pull every thing from a 8k lb skidsteer to my lawnmower. As long as you put a brake box in and remeber to use 4low when backing up hills you're fine.

I got a 02 f-250 7.3, 276,000, been all good,I tow alot with it too, everyone I know with 04 and older duramax has had injector problems around 120,000 miles, and one with brake booster problems, guess anything can go wrong but a 7.3 took care of is hard to beat, I wouldn't buy anything else for myself, just my opinion, fords been mighty good to me

The 7.3 hands down is a beast and work horse! The 6.0 types are always in the shop and i never get to see a 7.3 other than for regular maintenance. At the same time, chevy makes one heck of a motor as well! They can really take some abuse! We rarely get any duramax trucks in either...in my opinion though, if you can find a 7.3 in good condition, jump on it!
Buuuuut, i am a dodge guy! So you already know what i would get....
