Eliminating Georgia's weapons "license" - For God's sake people, do it!

Second Amendment Rights
[Broken External Image]:

When our Founding Fathers drafted the Bill of Rights, they included the Second Amendment, which states, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." They wisely knew that if the people were armed, there would always be a built-in protection against criminal activity and tyranny.

I am a gun owner and avid hunter, and have consistently fought to protect the right to keep and bear arms. One of my top priorities is to stop liberal activists from infringing your rights and taking our guns.

Too often, guns are blamed for violent acts rather than blaming the perpetrators of these acts. Rather, we should look inward to determine what lies behind these acts of violence. Inanimate objects cannot be the cause of anything without the human hand holding them making a decision. The solution to curbing violence lies in our homes, schools, and places of worship – not by limiting the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens.

Did this proposed legislation get any traction?
From the looks of things, it's probably not going anywhere. Hb859 (the current campus carry bill) looks to be the gun bill that's going to be moving. There will be a hearing on it soon, date still TBD. In its current state it is not earth-shattering, however it is a win for the 2a with no steps backward. It is more of a "partial campus carry" bill as it is written.

HOWEVER, multiple little birdies have been tweeting that this will be a big gun bill year, so watch closely for hb859 to grow.

how ironic there is always a "big gun bill" in an election year...

It's frustrating isn't it? Actually it's disgraceful. The only reason our rights are furthered is because it benefits the politicians who vote for it. It's hard to understand that this is even an issue when we control both houses and the governor seat, but it's all a political game. Some politicians are exceptionally against our 2a rights, despite wearing an R next to their name. This makes things even more difficult. But hey, as long as they promise to "sign every pro gun bill" that comes across their desk.

It's not surprising. Think about who many of the State Sen. and Reps. are. Some are ex-Dems (Alan Powell comes to mind as I lived in Hartwell for many years, he actually ran as a Dem uncontested, got reelected, switched parties a week or so after. Others are "Church Republicans" who fought against Sunday Drinking and don't really view guns outside of their hunting rifles as being important. God protects you, not guns types. Nothing wrong with God protecting you, but God has to worry about billions of people.

They don't want to be replaced, so they support things they privately likely don't agree with.

Also, FWIW, Westmoreland is retiring and there are rumors he might run for Governor. I like Lynn and would certainly vote for him for Governor. Would be better than NAFTA Nathan.

I moved from Alabama to Georgia and was pretty shocked at how hard it is/was getting a Georgia license. Granted it's been 35 days and that useless thing still hasn't made it's way into my mailbox, but Alabama was easy. I go there, fill out paper, pay money, get license. Same day service.

It's because you live in Atlanta. From friends I've heard they will sometimes stretch it out to the maximum amount of time allowed by law just to do it.

I live in Troup County and had mine in three business days.

Damn seriously? Well to be exact it's Cobb county Marietta, but that's asinine. You kinda ruined my day because I was sure (being optimistic) it would be there seeing as how yesterday was presidents day. Now all I need to find out today is that I owe on my taxes. smh
