Where the stars at night are big and bright.
I was speaking with my state rep last night at a meeting. I had previously contacted him via email about Georgia's Constitutional Carry bill that was introduced last year. He's not a big 'gun guy' and had said he needed to study the language. I responded by giving him the reasons why I felt it the only appropriate stance for any Constitutionalist to take and why any opposition was based on demonstrably false assumptions. This was several months back.
Now I seriously doubt he could possibly remember who I was from email and I had met him a few times before but I'm sure he meets thousands of people, but when I was talking to him last night I asked him straight out first thing, "Are you going to support the Constitutional Carry bill?" With ZERO hesitation he said 'Yes!'. He did confirm it was Rep Clarke's bill so he had obviously done his homework. This was in a one on one conversation after the meeting. I asked him what the realistic chances of it seeing a floor vote were and he said "It all depends on how much people are contacted."
He said something during the meeting I want to make sure people appreciate. There were a few lobbyists at this meeting but he told the modest gathering... "Look, there's a lot of lobbyists in Georgia. There are lobbyist for every conceivable issue. Many of them are very good. But I can promise you this, 10 call or emails from voters in my district has infinitely more impact than any lobbyist and I'm not alone. My colleagues feel the same." Now you can dismiss that statement as pandering but this guy is about as far from a 'panderer' or grandstander as I believe still exists. I could relate a few things that perhaps do show he's not 'typical' (like signing a petition to make sure he last OPPONENT was allowed on the ballot) but maybe I'm being overly cynical about the others. When I was talking to him privately I mentioned an email he had sent out the previous day giving everyone his personal contact information including his personal cell phone number. I jokingly told him he may regret that. He said very seriously and sadly, "Nobody calls. I WANT people to call me. You'd be shocked how infrequently we are contacted." I told them that was a sad commentary on the state of affairs and that most people surely think that there's no point in contacting their reps and it's a "lost cause".

All of that to say..... lots of people spend a lot of time lamenting any number of issues on here, other forums, with their family and friends, etc. For the love of Pete take 5 minutes out of life and contact your rep, TODAY on HB543 http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/en-US/display/20152016/HB/543 to get Constitutional Carry passed in Georgia! If we can't agree that is a massive step in the right direction and rally around it we truly deserve the infringements we currently have.
The GWL requirement is indefensible and the lack of disgust by Georgia gun owners that we are subjected to it has got to stop!

But I like feeling special because I was required to give money to the government for a little plastic "Scarlet A" and undergo obtrusive checks for the 'privileged' of exercising my Constitutionally protect 'right'.

Doing it right this minute. Thank you sir.

OK, just emailed my rep - Brad Raffensperger.

Do I need to contact my state senator yet or does it have to come out of the house first? Yeah, another Georgian who doesn't know that much about my own government.

<---- Fail

Anyway, great post!

Light 'em up ODT and let's get this bill moving!

Thanks H!
It's got to pass the house first but there's nothing wrong with preemptively contacting your Senator saying you trust he/she is a pro 2A legislator and that WHEN they get the chance to vote or or sponsor Constitutional Carry they will do so!
