Eliminating Georgia's weapons "license" - For God's sake people, do it!

I read the bill, didn't see anywhere in there criminalizing carrying of a long gun for those under 21..what i was surprised to see was long gun defined as having a bbl length of at least 18"...

  1. 105 (c) The following persons shall be prohibited by law from carrying a weapon or long gun:

  2. 106 (1) Any person younger than 21 years of age unless he or she:

  3. 107 (A) Is at least 18 years of age;

  4. 108 (B) Has completed basic training in the armed forces of the United States; and

  5. 109 (C) Is actively serving in the armed forces of the United States or has been honorably

  6. 110 discharged from such service;

I live in District 17 and have emailed both to support this bill.

rick.jeffares@senate.ga.gov

This bill has a hare's chance in hell of passing, hopefully I am wrong.
I believe that permits in any form is nothing but another form of taxation, which means the government does not want to give up this stream of income.

Let me know how he replies. He is also my rep. I talked to him a while back on the phone and was blown away about his opposition to the second amendment. He proceeded to tell me that he didn't feel certain people should be allowed to carry guns and had a "kiss my ass" attitude.

I hope you let him know you will cancel out a liberal's vote next election.

I have called and e-mailed these two "Democrats" on several occasions. Pam replied once just after accepting her current position. EJ refuses to return calls or reply to e-mail. These are not the kind of politicians that give their personal information or bother to reply to a voter, especially one who doesn't feel the need to gut the second amendment to worthless words on ignored paper.

But I have asked for their support of HB543 but it's seriously doubtful they will betray their party block vote.

Our real enemy to constitutional carry are backstabbing RINO's who will covertly or if nothing to lose overtly undermine the intent and purpose of the bill. Much like HB60 the guns everywhere bill that the Republican senior committee leader who gutted the bill to a shell but if not for some wise savvy Republicans who took the body of the bill and inserted it in another bill that didn't have to go into committee and then voted on it.

The democraps will vote party line, there has been an occasional line breaker but most will ignore any sworn oath and continue to undermine our 2A rights via regulation of the right not to be regulated nor infringed.

So be it, everyone able needs to take the 5 minutes and contact their representatives.

Go here for who they are and contact your GA. senate and house rep. http://votesmart.org/

Brother, you need to move.

At this point, I will defer to GA Carry's learned members of The Bar for their opinion on the end result of this legislation as written. That is not to say it cannot be fixed, but a little research is important before hammering the reps with support of a bill of which I have limited information.

Bills are rarely simple. They almost always take something when they give.

The term "law-abiding" is problematic. Are you no longer "law-abiding" if you are caught speeding?
Dave,
PM me your email address and I'll be happy to share Jerry's response. I assure you, it has nothing to do with being a 'learned member of the bar association'.

For the rest I'll summarize their concern again.

They realize it's a bill to repeal Georgia's requirement for a 'permit/license' which in principle GCO firmly supports.
Their objections are honestly confounding.
1) They don't like that it t doesn't EXPAND the places Georgians can legally carry, although he admits the bill is not designed nor does it have anything to do with that issue. :confused:
2) The fact it eliminates the indefensible and illogical disparity in the treatment of long guns and hand guns, restricts those non military 18-20 years olds from carrying loaded long guns JUST LIKE they are restricted from carrying handguns.

Everyone, PLEASE READ THE BILL. I'm absolutely astounded any gun owner would not support this. If you are waiting for PERFECT gun laws in Georgia, well.... :rolleyes:
Please help us all improve them whenever we can and help take this HUGE step forward!

I had a chance to read it and I tend to agree. And IIRC, didn't HB60 receive a few "repairs" last year and aren't a few slated for this year too?

It looks fine for the most part, but I don't see any issues being "bad" enough to warrant not going forward as it is authored. Might need to take it piecemeal anyway. Everyone said the world would fall apart after HB60 and it hasn't.
