Their bill will be along soon, hang in there. But the focus probably won't be on removing what is essentially an annual ~$10 tax on the second amendment. As frustrating as this tax and going through the licensing process for a God-given right is, making the leap right now to the "constitutional carry" that this bill speaks of would be premature.
I hate it that we can't just point to the second amendment and put all the infringements to rest at once. We have to decide which infringements to attack first and handle them systematically. Our advances would slow down significantly if this bill passes right now as it is. It's hard enough making gains while convincing those "on the fence" that gwcl holders, statistically some of the most law abiding citizens, are responsible enough to carry a gun. That key defensive point is out the window once a bill like this passes. It is a battle we will have to have, but we have to have our ducks in a row first.
Please just hang in there, something better is coming. It may be in the form of this bill after some major changes, or it may have another face, but it's coming. Sometimes having a bill up for 2 full legislative sessions is not the best recipe for success. We'll get there, just can't skip the steps in between.
I received a news letter from GCO today, saying that HB543 needs improving. It would prohibit the carrying of a long gun by anyone under 21, unless a trained individual, veteran. You can read about it on their website. Sounds like you would still need a GWL for any reciprocity needs anyway.

I'm just curious, but what is the current "hang in there" timeframe that GCO is recommending??? Because at the current rate, I'll be dead and worm-food by they time they finally reach Constitutional Carry. And in a state that has veto proof republican majorities who run on a platform that supports 2A, that is simply unacceptable.
It's quite obvious that people are frustrated with the current pace, and as such they are moving on and pushing their own agendas.
The timeframe is this legislative session. I can't be more specific because I don't know a date.
The problem is, unless you go about this very carefully, a select few can and will stop the bill from seeing the light of day. Emails and petitions won't help when a single person is holding the bill hostage, ie the lieutenant governor. This is the exact scenario that happened in 14, and was overcome by coordination and creativity from gco and the right legislators. This move happened in the final minutes of the final day of that session.
I agree that it's frustrating that we only get 1 pro gun bill every 2 years given the republican party is so heavily stacked. But this is the year in the cycle where it can happen.
Remember that we take a chunk every time. We're not terribly far from being to a good place. What do we have left in our state? I'm sure that we can get this accomplished while you're still able to enjoy the freedom. Unless I'm missing something major, I see campus carry (which was already passed but will need to be passed again due to cowardly and underhanded acts), the rest of church carry (no more opting in), the rest of government building carry (no more screened ingress/egress bs), expanding people who can carry, and removing the licensing requirement altogether. It would also be great to get some language with teeth regarding government attempting to enforce illegal gun laws, from illegal detentions of law abiding citizens who happen to be carrying a gun, to councils/departments drafting illegal gun control ordinances (both maybe to include fine and imprisonment?) There are more things needed at the state level not listed, but these are some big ones. Federal level is a whole other story, but make sure to keep up on the lawsuit against the atf regarding full auto.
Also, I want to clarify that GCO is not the same as other originations with similar initials. In comparison, you will see that GCO is a calm, collected group that acts professionally. GCO remains level headed and relies heavily on professional yet direct communication with key legislators WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT. It's extremely efficient and very successful.
GGO has proven that method ineffective. A couple years back when they were very aggressive and giving the "boot up the ass", our representatives shut down and passed nothing to spite them. That was a set back to us all but it seems the lesson was not learned, as GGO seems to be pushing very hard on a bill that won't go anywhere as it is written.

The bold has actually been the problem since the beginning with 308, and it was Perdue, Cagle, and others back then who opposed things like church carry. And here we are almost a decade later, in a state with republican veto proof majorities, and we're still begging for scraps.
There is no reason for a "go slow game" in a state with republican proof majorities who run on a platform supporting 2A. If career politicians like Cagle are still blocking things, then they need to go to send a message, and that is where my money and time will be spent. As B boxer90 said, sometimes a boot in the ass is more appropriate.
If GCO can't get something going this year, then that's just too bad, and as I said people will push their own agendas.
That's when you make lists of those unwilling to do their job and put them out of work. 2010 showed that nobody is safe from a Primary challenge, even against someone with "no experience". One big problem are that some of these "Republicans" used to be Democrats. Deal was a Democrat. I know Alan Powell of Hartwell was a Dem for most of his career and he's stated some interest in "training courses" in the past. People who flip-flopped to save their job can't be trusted to do their job.
If they don't do their job, run against them in the Primary and try to knock them out. Send a message that they're going to do the job they are voted in to do or they might not get voted in again. Even a Primary win might encourage them to do something, because most of these guys don't receive a challenge. Some run unopposed. If they're comfy, make them uncomfy. They change their tune or they eventually go back home.
