Epic DOT fail today

I don't think the DOT is not responsible to insure you get home before/during/after the weather turns to suck. I read a lot here about the Govt intrusion and how we don't need it in our lives (I agree with most of it). Then this happens and threads pop up blaming the DOT, various School Board, etc for kids being stranded and motorist stuck on the roadway. What happened? Ironic thread is Ironic

I agree that the majority of the people stranded were NOT prepared for today. But then again, nobody expected to be stranded for up to 8 hours because there wasn't any salt or sand on the roads.
So, what the hell is the DOT for then? What are the state and county road departments for? Why were schools even open today?Could they not have prepared better also? Ironic thread you say?

The school board is acting "in loco parentis" and is responsible for your kids while they are there. They should have planned better.

That being said, we picked up the kids long before it could have been a problem.

Why would you expect their to be salt and sand on the roads? The state owns few if any salt and sand trucks.
