I hadn't either until last week. But I guess I've been herping my whole life. Since I realized it was a thing, I decided to take my daughter out exploring and we filmed our first herping adventure.

The wife will move anything off the road.
Had a funeral at the range for a common snapping turtle that didn't make it this weekend.
You would be surprised at how many critters we can actually save and release.
We had a 30 to 40 year old Alligator snapping turtle a month or so back.
Looked like a dinosaur, lol.
He made it, just needed some time to get his wits about him again.
No fingers lost, fortunately. Boy there's only one way to safely grab those guys, by the tail, under the shell.
My God he was HEAVY!

By the way, I have great respect for you taking the time to do all this with your kids. You can tell your daughter is already sold out on being in the woods!

I thought the same thing.
She'll grow up like my wife, not scared.
She'll be helping things and releasing things her whole life.
Big spider in the house. I tell the wife.
Moments later it's out there guarding the veggies in the garden. lol
Her don't kill attitude is catchy.

No problem eating wild game, just dispatch it humanely is all she asks....

I've caught a big one too! Those things will get the heart rate up!

Oh yeah one screw up and you're short some fingers.
I watched one cut a good sized bream in half with one bite, looked like it was cut with scissors.

I decided to use the moving blanket we always carry and bundle him up.
He was just too heavy for me to carry him the "right" way.
