I waited until I was 37 to get my first one...mostly out of respect for my maternal grandfather. Now I have 3...and if money was no object, I'd have a whole lot more.

You have 3 maternal grandfathers? I only had one but both he and my paternal grandfather got their tats in WWI. Based on their experience, they both advised against tatoos, tobacco, Chevys, alcohol, getting shot and foreign women. More or less in that order.
