Factory Five 33 Hot Rod

P6040027.jpg Finally figured it out. Now for a little light reading. :D

P6060001.jpg The oil pan I picked up yesterday, looks too good to paint. It is a rear sump pan designed to clear to main cap stud girdle hiding underneath. Really limited my choices and Factory five guys said a rear sump pan helps with installation. This car will be sitting pretty low, I hope oil pan clearance is not an issue??

Little story about the engine stand. Since nobody from CL would call me back about their engine stands for sale, I went to Harbor freight since I had a 25% off coupon. They did not have one in stock so the manager was kind enough to sell me the floor sample for 50.00. It didn't have a price on it so I asked the cashier what was the regular price and she said 59.95. She informed me my coupon could not be used on a floor sample so I asked her to charge me 59.95 and use my coupon which would make it 45.00 instead of 50.00. Wow the look of despair in her face as she informed me she could not do that. I resisted the urge to ask for someone with some common sense as the other cashier explained that she could indeed perform that miracle. I did change all the bolts when I got home, finally......

Since I can't do much until the stroker kit arrives I at least got the block drilled and tapped for the spider. This will allow the use of roller lifters in this block. After that couldn't resist a little mock up. P6070002.jpg

Looking forward to seeing the build thread.

Those are Awesome cars!

Now you need to be on the hunt for a early 30's Ford VIN plate.

It wont have to be a '33 who is ever gonna know the difference?

this guy can help you with a ID plate.

Will save you loads of headaches when it comes time to get a license plate.
if you dont, the state will consider issue you a VIN and register it as the year you complete the build.
And it will have to meet the emission standards of that year. Which will be impossible without 4 cats, and 3 computers, EFI, EGR, tank vapor recovery , etc, etc.

If you can find a VIN thats been registered in GA in the past, it wont even require a visual inspection of the vehicle.
A VIN from out of state requires a rep from the DMV to inspect the VIN on the vehicle.

so you wanna trade that 351 from the bronco for a couple bricks of .22 LR ?

Awesome info, the kind of help and knowledge I was looking for. Sold the engine and trans from the Bronco to my son-in-law. I forgot he and my daughter had an old worn, and I mean worn Ford P/U her grandad gave to her. I kept the distributor, fabricated valve covers and the rest of the drivetrain. Anyone need a 6 inch lift kit, 9 inch diff or a transfer case from a 85 fullsize Bronco???

Im certainly not an expert on the subject, I asked a friend about it yesterday, the early Fords didnt have a VIN plate, the ID # was stamped in the frame and the engine block,

I know the rules recently changed, (in the last few years) regarding kit and replica vehicles, they used to be registered as the year they resembled, now they are registered as the year they are constructed, and they are not exempt from emissions testing requirements.

Theres a couple different ways to go though, Im not sure you can get a title at all, but registering it should be easy if you can slide it thru using a early '30s Ford VIN,

I transplanted a diesel into a 1995 Toyota, and since the title said "gasoline" it had to pass emissions test to get a tag.

I tried to get the DMV and the county tag office to inspect and change it to "diesel"
no way, not happening, 'You've violated federal and state laws by changing the engine"

Sold it to a guy in a location with no emission test, he made it 3 miles away and it quit running, clogged fuel filter.
11 o'clock at night, no where to buy a new one, I gave him his money back.

He'd already filled in the back of the title, so I had to go to the county tag office and order a replacement title,
and I just casually mentioned that it had a diesel engine in it,
"who would put a diesel engine in a Toyota?"
"uhh, I dunnno, but its a diesel,"
"I might can change it in the computer, lemme see,,,,yep "

Up till that point, I had several thousand $$ and lots of labor sunk into a vehicle I couldnt get a license plate for.
so I was limited to selling it outside of the emission test counties,

you do not want to wind up in that situation.
Where you have tens of thousands of $$ and hundreds of hours in a vehicle you cant drive.

After I get the replacement title in the mail I go back to the tag office hand em the title and say I need to get a license plate, clerk says "you got the emission test?"
"its exempt, diesels dont get tested"
..she looks at title.."oh, it is a diesel, never seen a Toyota diesel, ok that will be $88. cash credit or debit"

so maybe you could build it, bolt in a diesel, get it registered and exempted from emission tests, then put the 351 in it,,, Im not sure if a kit/replica vehicle has to run and drive to get registered or not. if not, you could toss any old diesel engine it it for them to look at.

This guy

can help you register the vehicle to a New Mexico LLC, and pretty much get a license plate from any state, for privacy reasons, so the vehicle registration can never be linked with who actually owns it,

you might could use the LLC and address outside of the metro Atlanta area where you wouldnt have any problem registering it as a year of construction and getting a license plate.

but any way you slice it, its gonna be a hassle, I think the easiest way to handle it is to buy a 30's vehicle,
like this one, which comes with a title

get insurance on it, haul it to the county tag office on a trailer, get it registered, then take it home and "rebuild it"
be sure when you sell off the leftover parts, to keep the frame and any ID tags as proof that you used that vehicle as the basis for your build, dont sell em to someone who could try to register those numbers.

youd probably come out ok moneywise, might even make some profit from parting out the old car, and you'd have zero hassle at the DMV.

You'd have your insurance tag and title before you finished your build.

or you could walk into the county tag office when they are not swamped and tell em you bought a junker 33 Ford thats not drivable and what do you need to do to register it so when you get it finished you will be ready to hit the road.
They will tell ya what you need to do, what numbers you need from the frame or whatever.

just some ideas,
the state has made it impossible to register kit and replica vehicles in the emission test counties, so you;re gonna have to get creative.

I appreciate the info, we do emissions at work and I read the requirements for a "hot rod" and "kit car". They are sorta vague so I do not know exactly how it is gonna shake out. I've already thought of a few creative ideas, including buying a property in a non-emissions county. The only good news is I have at least a year or two to figure it out. There are several people in Georgia building Factory Five cars so I'm hoping they may help me through the process.
