In my experience a lot of the people that you meet are fake most of the time and most of the people that you meet are fake some of the time. People have far too much concern for what other people think which leads them to act fake, truly authentic people are rare and IMHO fall into one of three categories - 1.) They have come to realize that other peoples opinions of you should come secondary to your own, or 2.) They have too much integrity to be fake, or 3.) They flat out don't give a damn about other peoples opinions about them. My grandfather and father each fall into categories #2 and #3 as do I...I have taught #1 and #2 to both of my boys since they were old enough to understand - they'll get to #3 all on their own!
