Finally got me, stuck case.

anyone tried the Frankford Arsenal stuck case remover? having other drill and tap out the brass works, but sure takes a while.

I've looked at it.

I think the thing I don't like about it is that if your case is stuck and the case rim is damaged, the FA clamp isn't going to be able to grip the case properly and you won't be able to make a straight 'pull' on the case to extract it.

What I DID discover, after breaking the tap from a normal case puller set, I decided to get some third party taps and a drill bit from Amazon as spares. All I can say is that the kits you buy are assembled using the very cheapest dies and drills that RCBS/Hornady/Lee can source.

There are also useful techniques you can use when you're threading the case (use grease on the tap, cut a bit, back it out, lube the threads, cut a bit more etc.)

I couldn't find a kit locally when I did this, so bought a tap, bolt and washer from ACE Hardware. It worked perfectly on 223. I did use the techniques described above.

If you size while loading a bottle necked case, how do you know the case isn't too long and needs to be trimmed? Brass length grows when sizing it. If you don't believe me, measure OAL of a fired piece of brass, then run through sizer and measure again.

The very first .223 I attempted to load was on the 550B, it got stuck and I had to get it out. I then did some research and realized it was best to size bottle necked cases on a single stage. I bought a Lee Challenger and have used it for that ever since.

As for straight walled pistol cartridges, I size them on while loading, no issues there. They don't grow like bottle necked cartridges do.

When in loading high pressure loads, then I do check for case OAL. But I’m loading Subsonic 300blk and do spot check and have yet to have any in need of trimming.

If you can get in the case from the top. Drive it out with a punch. I stuck a case good the other day. Rotated the case to slide out shell holder, removed the deprimer pin and hit a punch with a lawn mower hammer and out it came. I put the die in a big vise with leather pads, no risk of damaging the press.
