This. I was in my 5th grade classroom and the teacher put the news on the TV.

Elvis's death. Had no idea of who he was, but people were freaked out.

My sister lived outside of Memphis for a time and we went to visit her. We decided to go visit Graceland. We didn't know it, but it was the one year anniversary of Elvis' death. Wowza! Women crying uncontrollably like they had just found out their husband died. It had been a YEAR. I had just turned 13 and thought.... "Dang, that dude musta had it going on."

Well, I guess he kinda did lol. I always thought it was strange, considering what he did for a living, that he never wrote a song of his own. He certainly made other people's song his. No doubt, if he sang a song, he owned it from then on...But you'd think he would have wanted to write at lease A song at some point....Same with Twitty. He never wrote one either.

I was in elementary school and they gathered the whole grade in one room to watch the Challenger launch on a tv on a tall rolling cart. I remember seeing it, I remember knowing it had exploded, I remember them turning off the tv. I really don't remember what happened after that.
