I'm secure in myself, and have a love and appreciation for things that is not affected by the opinion of others.

If your "family name" and things you value can be damaged by disparaging opinion, you need a stronger sense of self, and one less tied to the affirmation of strangers.

So it's all about perspective. Don't get your panties in a wad when someone has a differing perspective from your own then.

I don't give a damn about a flag....any flag. It's a flag, nothing more. If I wiped my ass with it behind closed doors who would it hurt? No one.

Also, you probably should not be name calling figures in other people's religion....the Christian god is deserving of some doozies. I know how that offends you.

I think that's a pretty accurate statement. It kind of is all about perspective. If I would have seen the advertisement, I would not have interpreted it as showing any disrespect to our nations flag. I would have seen it as an advertisement on painted rocks (their rocks). Had the same advertisements been stapled to an actual flag, I would have thought that was in very poor taste. When I was attending college at Ole Miss during the early 90s, there were big protests about waving of the Confederate flag at football games because of what the flag (allegedly) symbolized to the black students on campus. The flag meant nothing to me as I was a Northerner and basically ignorant to any of the hotly debated issues that were still prevalent in the deep South. Anyway, the students who were protesting the flag eventually got their way after protesting everything they could think of that might adversely affect their financial contributions to the university. To appease the students, the University banned the Confederate "X" flag and replaced it with an identical flag but changed the X to an "M". The decision to change the flag was very unpopular with the great majority of students and much of the faculty who most likely never thought that waving the flag meant anything but demonstrating school spirit and support for their team; however, I think the ultimate decision came down to a fear of how the university would be perceived on a national scale if the issue got any further out of hand.

I've never been able to understand how a word can be of so much importance. If the word simply stands for something else, what does it matter?

Even if the word is n*****? or ***got? or Wealth redistributing communist?(ok that's like three words but same meaning)

I very much appreciate facets of the US, I also realize there are area that are lacking compared to other countries. It's a pretty logical way to observe. Patriotism is akin to "faith" in christianty, and I don't subscribe to the concept at all.

Do you have faith in a country that allows you to believe this way, or any way you so choose? That is what the flag stands for and I'm a subscriber. I'm sure this is one of the facets you very much appreciate. To me it is worth being a loyal servant to a land that gives me the freedom to be me. And as long as I have that freedom I will be loyal to it because I whole heartedly believe in it. That's patriotism. And you have none?

I think you're confusing self-esteem with self-absorption.

I like to understand my opinions, how I came about them, leave them open for amendment, and look at them objectively. There are a lot of great countries out there. Like I said, the US does some things much better than others, and other countries excel in areas where the US falls on it's face. It's the same reason I don't have any brand loyalty.

Why bother voting? Because it affects me directly via legislation that is passed. What kind of question is that? I don't vote to get the flag sticker.

Its the kind of question that I ask when someone is completely void of any patriotism. If you have no patriotism and zero loyalty or attachment to the country you reside in then you do not care any more about what happens here as anywhere else. So why bother? At least that's the way it came across in type. I'm not judging you. Just curious about your statements.
