Scary law in FL, leaves too much room for interpretation.

http://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2010/790.29

Any two or more persons who assemble as a paramilitary organization for the purpose of practicing with weapons shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail for not more than one year or by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars ($1,000), or by both that fine and imprisonment.

The scary part is that technically this law doesn't make exemptions for companies like blackwater.

Also the really scary bit .... right here

Whoever teaches or demonstrates to any other person the use, application, or making of any firearm, destructive device, or technique capable of causing injury or death to persons, knowing or having reason to know or intending that the same will be unlawfully employed for use in, or in furtherance of, a civil disorder within the United States, is guilty of a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s.

where it says "a technique" could be drawing a diagram drawn of a trebuchet on a napkin for someone or ANY MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING!!!!

Also "making of any firearm" could be assembling an AR15 lower receiver.

The way I read it, PMCs are exempt because of the term "intending".

"(3)(a) Whoever teaches or demonstrates to any other person the use, application, or making of any firearm, destructive device, or technique capable of causing injury or death to persons, knowing or having reason to know or intending that the same will be unlawfully employed for use in, or in furtherance of, a civil disorder within the United States, is guilty of a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s."

"(4) Nothing contained in this section shall be construed to prohibit any act of a law enforcement officer which is performed in connection with the lawful performance of his or her official duties or to prohibit the training or teaching of the use of weapons to be used for hunting, recreation, competition, self-defense or the protection of one’s person or property, or other lawful use."

You can train for purposes of self defense, hunting, and pretty much any legal activity. The prosecution would have to show intent to break the law on behalf of the trainee and reason to know that intention on behalf of the trainer.

I am not defending the law, but the Chicken Little routine is a bit much.

Like they wouldn't just fabricate intent and knowledge at their leisure...

Why do they need a new law to fabricate evidence?

This is the nuance the founders installed into The Constitution. We have the right to bear arms, speak freely and other actions necessary to rise up against the government, but the government is given the authority to put down insurrections.

Heard of any terrorist cells planning an insurrection in Naples recently?

If you are worried about these guys don't. I highly doubt they have 5 minutes worth of formal training with firearms and are to primal to pull off an organized military action.

If they wire tapped us before the Patriot Act why did they need the Patriot Act?

What does that have to do with fabrication of evidence in a criminal trial.

Intent is everything in criminal law. It is the difference between "I could just kill him" and "First we wait for him to leave for work, then...Blah blah blah"

The former is an expression and the latter is conspiracy to commit murder.
