Fly fishing gear -lifespan

Admittedly a very novice question but I impulsively bought a new rod and reel and realized I’m spread a little thin on time and knowledge. If I set this in the corner for a few years any issues with it not performing well when I actually full commit to the sport. If there’s any issues “mothballing” then I’ll just try to cover part of my expenses.

Long as you don’t leave out in the weather it will last longer than you

No time limit on fly rods. As long as kept indoors out of the weather. I have a bamboo rod thats over 60 years old I use from time to time.
