Ford Exec Declares Engines No Longer Matter...

I hate to say it, but I'm sure he's mostly right. The manufacturers will just buy a generic 2.0 turbo 4 that will be shared by many car brands. A Chinese company will build engines for a dozen car companies. Such a shame, considering in the past many car companies were known for their engines and they were a selling point.
Last I knew of, boats have been like this for a while. You just put the stickers on to what manufacture you want it to be

I will stick with my 80’s & 90’s hot rods and trucks !! They work, they have power, they can be fixed relatively cheap and quickly with easy to get parts if you have the know how and tools !!
Being an auto tech for years, I have no problems with know how and tools. As long as I can get the grunts from the younger ones for labor I can do ok !!

The old fashioned "Shade Tree" mechanics haven't been able to work on new cars for a long time.

All of y’all are correct in your assessment. I have worked on vehicles all of my adult life . I have more invested in tools than in my house.
The sad thing is that my body has broken down to a degree now that I can’t even drive any longer. So now my trucks sit, my tools sit and all I can do is remember the good ole days when I used to race around Cobb county
( and most any other surrounding counties) and admire everyone’s rides .
We would meet in parking lots and shoot the “chit” about cars and then the BS would start and soon you had bets and folks lining up at red lights to do street racing !! :clap2:

This is true to a degree. I was very fortunate to come along at a time when these computer controlled vehicles started to reign supreme. I went to school, did the learning and spent a many years doing the diagnostic and repairs on them as well as the older ones too.
I hate that I had to give it all up due to a broken down body.
