Foreign Weapons and Obscure Builds

Took my 12 year old grandson to the range last weekend, he was taught to shoot and safety at 6. We shot the WASR last time, I kept telling him he did not want to shoot the folder, so of course that is what he wants to take,,,lol. I don't even really like shooting it much. And I know he is gonna want to shoot it folded, but don't we all at one time or another.

So quick update

The American made 9mm UMP bolts, in conjunction with the variance in polymer from the Omega uppers combined with a less than desirable feed ramp on the American made barrels are the problems of ALL the ump 9 kits that are using the American parts

Tommy said he had to machine the bottom of the bolt, then machine the shoulders down on the top of the bolt so that it would sit higher within the Omega receivers. He also polished the bottom of the bolt

Then sometimes he had to open up the hooks on the lower that lock into the upper so that the lower sat “lower” gaining more height on the bolt.

He would modify the American Barrel to have a better feed ramp so the double stack 9mm rounds would feed more reliably from the left and right

After he made 30 for Atlantic he test fired 10 rounds out of each, a few weeks later he was getting emails and calls about malfunctions failure to extract and eject. He had the people send them back ASAP and started digging in and realized the USA made extractors were machined out of spec , so he replaced all the extractors with German extractors and apparently provided German extractors for Atlantic to replace in the models they still had there?

Since then he said he hasn’t gotten any calls, or any complaints/warranty on any of his 9mm builds.

I’m feeling confident going with tommy on this.

I asked if he would be worried about long term use with the receivers he said he had been building 40s and 45s a lot and for a long time on the receivers and they’re tough he doesn’t foresee it being an issue

As far as the trigger not resetting he said this is a semi-auto Ump and USC problem and grease the **** out of the sear keep It greased with lithium or machine gun grease and it’ll be good to go.

of course he said he had little complaints or issues with the .40 and .45 models because they pretty much just powered through any tolerance issues.

Would love to go .45 at this point because of everything, but they’re out of stock everywhere and Atlantic has my money lol

Think I’m gonna settle on the Tommy Built 9mm and rest easy knowing he at least picked up his phone. He took 15 minutes to talk to a non-customer about another manufacturers weapon, and explained every issue I was experiencing and the exact way he overcame those issues with his build.

Also comes with a German mag.

Here’s to hoping Atlantic will pull a Tommy UMP9 for me and throw my name on it while we sit around waiting to hear from Omega.

Will make me excited again to know a new one is coming with MUCH more attention to detail placed into the build.

Two Pump UMP chump? You betcha

Damn dude that's a lot of **** for a gun that should be running like a top. Wtf wrong with manufacturers these days where they can't make a ****ing part to spec?

The bolts are 400.00 too lol and out of spec

The barrels are 299.00

They think their **** is GOLD because they’re the only ones making them but they’re all dicked up and together cost what a whole working scorpion costs lol

He also said that, if by some terrible set of unfortunate events, I end up stuck with the Omega I could send it in to him and he would do all those things to get it up and running for me. That’d be more coin and I probably would just convert to .45 and sell off the 9mm semi parts for a small loss but that ain’t gonna happen

Well, look on the bright side; all this **** will get fixed and you'll have a fully functional UMP. Not many people have one of those, but every cheap **** has a scorpion. Hell, I would have two if I hadn't have committed to the VZ lol
