FRAMING A HOUSE ! $10.00 A FOOT! WOW! WTH

I had a roof put on my house a few years ago. The house was 1800 sq/ft. When my wife left for work at 8 the guys were getting to work. The guy called me mid morning and asked what time I went to lunch. When I got home about 12:30 the crew was gone and the foreman was there to get a check. I told him I wish he had take longer for the amount I was about to pay him and he laughed. I was paying for the job not the hourly rate.

My house is a little over 1200 sqft. They had the old shingles off, new boards cut to replace the rotten spots in about an hour. There was probably 12 of them. All husband and wife Guatemalans. They killed it and did a great job. They were gone by 10:30 and started at 6:30. I swear they were all chit chattin. One dude that knew English talked to me for about 10 minutes. We gotta done. He whistled and you’d thought someone screamed ice. They ran to start working. He said he had 4 roofs to put on that day. Glad mine was the first one.

What?? You have AT LEAST 7 people relying on that 22k which takes almost a work week to support their families. That's really not much money in today's world. You know, inflation. And the overhead has to come out of that before anyone makes a dime.

Logic and facts have no place in ODT discussions.

Starting prices on new lake home construction is now at or above $300 per square foot and, add to that, a wait time of typically over a year before they can begin. Framing crews are scheduled a year out, and that is usually a van full of non-English speaking workers that work 12 to 14 hour days, 7 days, and quickly knock it out. Many of them are driving from the Atlanta area, and I am in Alabama - up to 2 hours travel each way.

Most new homes are 3500 sq. ft., or larger, meaning 1 million plus for the house, after you have paid $200k+ for a lot. And the building has not slowed down over the last few years. I wouldn't want to replace my 5,902 sq. ft. house at today's prices.

Slab! That alone, 10 grand!
9 foot ceilings!
2200 ft.²
5/12 roof pitch
10 windows!
That price is very high for being on a slab, and 5/12 pitch.
That is a framers dream house to frame.
If you were close to me I would do it for $8 a foot and still make damn
good money after paying my crew.
Slab price was not bad at all though.

I have 5 men to help! All with good knowledge! What’s the material package gets there? I think in two days we could have the walls up and the trusses set decking is a little slower for old people and I’m not really that far from you.

Well, everyone has an opinion, but I say I’m gonna pay you in cash that Auto bill $3000 discount off the top!

Did you decide to just order material and you and your guys knock it out? If they volunteer and y’all can do it that will save a lot of money. Count yourself lucky if you have five guys willing to give you 2-3 days of skilled labor. That is something to be grateful for
