I have an insulated fiberglass cover over my well
all the piping is insulated with armor flex that black foam stuff
for years I've used a 150 watt incandescent light bulb, but want to use something that won't go out during the night
or be too Hot for this cover
the pipes froze and cracked in 2010
any suggestions ?

That should be good enough but wrapping pipes and possibly heat tape, seal any gaps in pump cover should be enough.

Since you already have 120vac under the cover, wrap heat-tape around exposed pipes, unions and most the valve(s) but allow valve handle to be exposed just enough so you don’t need to remove any heat tape

Heat tape seldom goes bad, and it self shuts-off/on depending on the temp of the pipe it’s touching

sounds good I never thought of heat tape and I'm a retired Master Plumber, must be old age setting in
Thanks

now to find a reliable brand of Heat Tape

Master plumber here as well. I’ll find the heat tape name for you. One moment.

Edit: I’ll have to go to my shop to find the name. The internet is full of cheap crap.

I have a plastic faux rock cover that’s filled with spray foam that I admittedly kinda half-assed, and I have towels taped around the pipes. No lamp, no power heater, nothing…never froze since 2007. And I don’t drip my faucets either.🤷‍♂️

I used to run an extension cord out to my fiberglass rock/well cover. Recently I had a contractor hit my well pump with a truck. The well drilling repair guys wrapped the pipes with fiberglass insulation and covered that with a bag. Then they put a on new fiberglass rock/well cover.

They told me that I wouldn’t need to heat it with a light anymore.
