French Style ISIS Attack, in Georgia?

That's a romantic theory, but I respectfully disagree. Unless you're a civilian with extensive prior military or law-enforcement training for specific combat scenarios, you will NOT stack up very well. You may get a lucky shot off, but that does not mean you will get out of the situation alive. Properly trained military and law enforcement personnel are a little more sophisticated than the average citizen or some local hick militia group. It would be the equivalent of thinking you're a great Texas hold 'em player because you win regularly against the computer (with fake house money). See what kind of balls you have sitting at a table with a couple of professionals and ALL of your real money vs. all of their's. These radical terrorist types are ALL IN all the time. They don't care about dying (losing everything), and even kind of expect it. The average citizen does not have that same mindset.

Gambling is a good real-world example. Someone asked me once if paintball was a good substitute for force-on-force training. I said maybe for basic tactics, but with no chance of serious injury people might forget that in an actual shooting engagement.
I've been in 2 branches of the military but have been out for 20 years: I was never a high-speed operator so imagine how slow I am now.
But my sons are adults and I'm single, so would I try to help? I would probably be more use trying to provide first aid than going toe-to-toe against an AK47 with my M&P 9 with 2 mags.

Boom!

That's not exactly what I meant. I'm only saying that there are civilians who were never in the military who would be very tough to deal with for anyone. Not just some average hick militia group. No doubt the radicals have a different mindset.

I think you are underestimating your fellow Americans friend. I don't limit my right to bear arms to self defense only. I believe that as an American, I have a responsibility to my fellow Americans.
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
The founding fathers of the United States decided that an armed citizenry, which would consist of every able-bodied man in the country, makes the best army of all. Many men have died to protect this country and our freedoms. These men were farmers, cobblers, printers, grocers, mechanics, actors, baseball and football players. I am an optician, but I am no different than any of these men. I am an American, and if I die protecting America and her people, so be it. It's not "a romantic theory", it's called Honor.

well said, some folks on here just won't get it until they feel their ***** have at least measured up to everyone else, maybe a little bigger.

Anyone with a weapon is a pain in the ass to deal with. I always said I would be pissed as hell if I was shot by a 14 yr old girl who just picked up an AK on the street. No training.. Bam. Vs all the crap I went thru. If I was shot, I'd want it to be by someone who went thru as much crap as I did. Long way of saying, yes, I knew there was a chance I'd be killed by a noob and would not take them lightly. But.. Odds were stacked against them. There's honor and there's stupidity. If the same ends can be achieved and you not having to get shot in the face for it.. Go that route

I hear you, but those brave individuals with their hearts in the right place, would need to fully understand the gravity of the situation they are walking into and be at peace with the real possibility of losing everything they have or ever would have had, because that is what the other side is willing to do. Truth be told, the other side probably doesn't have much of anything to lose so they're not gambling with much. Listen, if the bad guys start walking down the street toward MY house with AKs out, I will do my best to pick them off and defend my family from the rooftops or wherever. If I'm out with my family and I see that stuff going down somewhere else, my only interest is in moving them and me as far away from the danger as possible. I am NOT treating the scenario as some opportunity to teach my children a lesson about bravery and how to be a "real" man. I will lead by example by demonstrating what is most important (safety of my family) and hope they will do the same as they grow up to ensure a long life.
