OK, my brother-in-law has always wanted to own a firearm but my sister would never allow one in their home. I have been wearing her down for years and finally got her to come around. So we bought him a new G17 Gen 4 (test fire date March 2012) as a surprise Xmas present. I have owned Gen 3's for years and they have always been super reliable and just assumed the Gen 4 would be an upgrade. But I just watched some youtube videos and read some reviews saying there are a lot of issues with the Gen 4s - FTF, FTE, spent casings in the face, etc. - especially with 115 gr ammo. He is the kind of guy who will be super kid-like excited when he opens it and super kid-like disappointed if has issues. I promised my sister that this would be a great gun for him, so please give me some good success stories with the Gen 4 17!! Thx!

Goo shot the damn thing first and figure out what's going on.

My gen 3 built about the same time kicks the brass right back in my face. I like it - it builds character.

I had a 17 g4 and it was a great pistol I never had issues with mine. 3rd's are still better IMO though, the 4's are good but almost seemed like Glock was trying to hard when what they had worked.

what are you naming your great grandkids? are we thinking a little ahead of ourselves? Glock cust service is great, even if you did have a problem they would be amazing to deal with. I wouldn't worry about it.

All Glocks should be fine Gen 1 through 4. Of course there can be the occasional "lemon", that's gonna be with any gun company. Buy one without hesitation. If it happens to mess up, run it down to Smyrna and everything will be taken care of no questions asked!

I have a Gen 4 G21.... Never any troubles-purrs like a kitten

-That being said, I do actually prefer the grip of a Gen 3.

(Also-if he has troubles, the boys up at Glock WILL make it right. I know a guy who walked in with a slide issue, and walked out with a brand new gun and 3 new mags. Never a problem since.)

Glock Rocks!

(And get your B-I-L a little training. Drop Willr1 a PM, and he can fix the boy up with a class. There is a world of difference between punching holes in some paper on a leisurely Sat afternoon and learning real-world techniques for the weapon.)
