g26 vs g19 for concealed carry

So you prefer the Shield to the 26? I guess its the chunkiness of the 26 that most find as a turn off. I would think the commonality of mags and the same basic controls would make a 26 shine. I had it explained to me that the grip of a J frame is simply easier to hold that the smaller (anything smaller than a 19) semi's.

If I were a cop on duty I would no doubt have a 27/26 for the mag. commonality but for the average civilian the slimness of the Shield makes it easier to slip in a pocket or hide in their everyday clothing that was not bought with the gun in mind. The same can be said about the J frame.

The sub-compacts are pretty tough for most people to run under high stress situations. The "bobble" factor is pretty high due to the reduced distance between the controls, short, thick grip, & sharp recoil... especially the 27. I couldn't tell you how many 27's have been brought to me that were "not working right" when the only problem turned out to be operator error.

I carry a 19 (or occasionally a 23) 365 days a year.

With a good carry sytem either one should hide well. The 19 is more preferred due to better control placement, handfit, sight radius, etc.
Very rarely has anyone in a 300 rd. class ever shot the whole class w/o switching to a 19 or 17 due to having to struggle w/ the "chunkiness" of the 26/27.
The problem is that the reduced surface area of the grip & slide make it hard to hold on to the gun while manipulating the gun & its controls.

We've even had people drop them more than once when doing reloading drills or malfunction clearance drills... especially as the stress increases & fine motor skills degrade during more intense drills trying to replicate the stress of a real fight.

However, if a person prefers the 26/27, can shoot it well, can manipulate it comfortably & quickly... and it is the biggest gun that they WILL carry, they could do a lot worse as far as choice of pistol goes.
I'd rather see someone with a 26 on their person than a 19 or 17 left in the car or at home....

So very true.

On a couple of jobs in a previous life a few years ago I briefly carried two 19's or two 23's instead of using the 26/27 as a backup to the mid-size.

That doesn't mean that is what everyone else should do... just what I chose to do when working in a potentially higher threat situation when a long gun was not an option.

I can see the bobble factor. I shoot the 26 well but I can tell when I press out there is a slight correction needed. I like the height if the 26 in comparison to the shield. I have a 3913 and am not a big fan of da/sa but find it about the size if the shield. I'm trying more and more to carry my 19. Size, weight, capacity shoot ability is tough to argue with. I love my 3" 65 k frame but for less weight I can carry almost three times the rounds.

eeeewwwww! CHOP OFF part of the grip?!?!?

sigh.

Well, it's only a 22. And at least it's not horribly scarred from being attacked by a soldering iron. God know THAT increases the value of a Glock. :boom:

I took my G32 to the range yesterday and enjoyed shooting it. The 357 Sig ammo I had was trade with's that came with another 357 Sig, long since passed along. All HP defensive ammo and quite "snappy". Dropped in the 9MM barrel and thought I was shooting a 22LR conversion. ;)

But it did remind me that I love the baby Glocks best of all. Oh not with that short stack standard mag(that thing is a pain to hold onto). But with the G23 mag and the nicely curved sleeve adapter it is fantastically comfortable to shoot. Kinda like a bobbed 1911.

For carry I'd take a 26/27 all day, every day. For shooting, I'd take the 19/23 over the 26/27 with the standard mag(even with the finger extension), but I'd most rather have a G26/27 with the G23 mags and adapter. Aside from grip comfort and concealability the "compact" Glocks all have the rail now and that rail just makes the muzzle square and bulky. Only the baby Glocks still retain the nice, tapered muzzle that conceals and carries so well.

And they make a chopped 22...it's called a 23. :p

Right, my two favorites (19/23) but aesthetically I like the looks/ dimensions of the "hybrid".
The ones Bowie Tactical Concepts do are sharp as are some from Robar & even even a few homemade ones.

It's easier to make a small gun (G26) shoot like a large one (G19/G17) than make a large gun carry like a small one.

The G26 with G19 mags (and adapter) make a good combo. The G26 will fit in many places that the G19 or G17 may not (glovebox included).

The G26 is versatile and a good one gun option. The G19 feels really good in my hand and was my second selection. I recently contemplated trading one and the decision was tough... I didn't have to make it, but I was prepared to let the G19 go for the right trade.

If/when the G43 9mm comes out, I may have to make that trade decision again.

IMHO

I'm not sure why I have this fascination with the smallest platform for the caliber but that just looks too long to me. Although I have to say that it looks so clean. The Gen 2 frames really had the sweetest lines. Maybe that is part of why I love the baby Glocks so much, They retain the sleek taper so much more than all the larger railed models.
