Georgia Hunting Guide Recommendations?

~ I am not going to be able to put as much time as I would like into hunting my first season in Georgia, with work going crazy I'm only looking at 4 weekends off between now and Christmas. So I've been thinking about maybe looking into a Guide service (not a cage hunt, they are not my thing). Would like to go 2-3 days for 2 to 3 deer and maybe hogs if available, and will pay a fair price. Not really a Big Buck fever kind of guy, Does taste better to me.

I smiled when I read your post because it revealed your true Alaskan roots. I know that in Alaska and western states the way to have a successful hunt, especially when you have li tied time for scouting, is to hire a local outfitter

Here in Georgia you will find that unless you are a trophy hunter you really don't need a guide. There is plenty of public land where in a few weekends of hunting you should have no trouble getting some venison and hog meat.

Now having said that - the Georgia version of an outfitted hunt is to reserve a weekend at one of the many "plantations" or hunting preserves in the state. They will provide accommodations, private land, a stand to hunt out of, meals, etc. :...for a fee. They range from no-frills with rustic camping, no food and just a map of the hunting area to fully guided one on one with luxury lodges and 5 star meals. Depends on how much you want to pay.

If you are really looking for a day in the woods and meat for the freezer I highly recommend getting maps of the nearest state game lands or WMA.
