Georgia Weapons Carry Permit (Renewal)

This has probably been addressed her before but I thought I would ask again as I can't find the previous thread.

My Weapons carry license expires next month and I need to renew it. I see a website pop up when I type in Georgia Carry permit that seems to allow you to renew on line. However, it states that it is not a government affiliated website.

Does anyone know if this is legit. I don't want to give out personal information on a bogus website.

I just went down to the courthouse and renewed mine last year. They took my picture and my money and said thank you. New card arrived in less than a week. My previous card just had the finger print on it.

Well I just called and talked to Cobb's probate court last week and they didn't mention any online renewal. Just bring your current permit (not more than 90 days before expiration), proof of residency in the county and a self addressed stamped envelope for them to mail you your new permit. No mention of any form of online renewal.

Applicants for renewal license

To apply for a renewal, you must present a valid weapons carry license which, at the time of submission of the renewal application:

a. cannot be more than 30 days expired and
b. cannot have more than 90 days remaining until expiration


Renewal Fee:
$30.00 Cash, Debit, or Credit Card (additional $2.50 service fee assessed to card)

I've just always gone down to the county probate court office and renewed in person. Never tried on line.

Mine expires in March and my address has changed so I called our probate court to see how early I can renew mine. I asked about the website and she told me that you must do it in person. She may have just been brushing me off but that's what she said. That was last Tuesday.

You should go read the website for the link you provided. It's an assistance service. For $17 they help guide you through the process and they ARE NOT affiliated with the Probate Court system.

Are they letting you keep your old permit till the new one arrives? or do you have to request a temporary one?

Yes, you keep your current one. If it's under 30 days to expire get a temp it's $1.00.
