Getting in shape for summer... who's in?

Trust me, in my 19 years of weightlifting, I've done about every single workout you can think of ;) All I really need to do is build the muscle and the fat will burn with it for the most part. That's how I've always done it. It's harder as you get older, but it still works quite well for me.

Edit: Sorry, this was a response for wnch. I'm still getting used to having to add the quote I'm responding to before I post.

Glad to see other guys concerned about getting in shape as well. Last year I started taking better care of myself after feeling sluggish and tired all the time. I'm only in my mid 30's and felt way too tired for my age. Knees were starting to hurt, had trouble staying focused for long periods of time, had trouble sleeping - you name it. I wanted to make a lifestyle change, not just a diet, so I wouldn't be fighting all the problems that go along with being overweight into my 40's, 50's, and beyond.

Ironically, my wife had just been introduced to products by AdvoCare from a friend that sold the stuff and after I tried their energy drink, Spark, I was hooked. I was already drinking way too many Monsters and Red Bulls every day and was trying to get off them and this stuff did the trick! It doesn't have the sugar like most energy drinks so I didn't crash after an hour like I did with Monsters and it's chopped full of vitamins that help with long-term energy. It was like a light bulb went off in my brain and I could focus more, wasn't tired throughout the day, and just had more energy in general (The first day I took the stuff I chopped down all the hedge bushes in front of the house that I had been wanting to get rid of with a machete lol). So I knew their stuff was the real deal and we started looking into their other products.

From there we both did the 24 Day Challenge by AdvoCare which is more of a body tune-up than a diet and I lost 18 lbs in 24 days. I kept eating right and taking their daily supplements (MNS-3) and lost a total of 40 lbs. After just a couple of days into the Challenge I already started feeling "cleaner" and just overall "better". After the first week I noticed clothes feeling looser, I felt I was getting more rest at night, and just wasn't as sluggish as I was before. I didn't really add any exercise, I just made sure to make better eating habits along with it. That was really all it took.

Long story short, we were so impressed that we became advisors with the company and I share the success that I've had with them to anyone that's interested in their products. I'm not here to push AdvoCare, I just wanted to share my success and to encourage others to keep at it! If anyone does want more info about AdvoCare, just send me a PM and I'll be happy to tell you more.

But at the end of the day it doesn't matter what method you choose, just stay determined. I can tell you that I feel better now than I have in 10 years and it's worth it!!! For all of you that have already made a change and are seeing the results, congrats! If you haven't and you're ready to make a difference, there's no better time than today.

Yes, the key phrase is if you do it correctly. Anaerobic workouts don't burn as many calories during the workout, but they increase your EPOC quite well. And it helps keep your HR up pretty decently between each exercise. This type of HIIT training is definitely an ADVANCED program. That's why it's out of my range right now lol. It works wonders when I get to that point though.

I like to incorporate anaerobic bursts into my classes followed by recovery intervals. It's awesome to see people's recovery times improve over a few short weeks.

Yea and it feels physically amazing too. It feels like every breath you take is so much more efficient when you get into good shape like that.

Yep, that 24-day challenge works wonders. It basically resets everything. My wife is a distributor and has 8 people on it right now. They are all doing great.

6'-3" and just generally kind of a big person. My boots are a 14 wide and the last suit coat I bought was a 52L (due to shoulders not gut... well, ok partially due to gut).

That's what I figured. I'm betting you get the "Are you sick? Are you ok?" comments if you get under 220lbs don't you?

No... I'm pretty happy in the 215 to 220 range. Seven or eight years ago, immediately post divorce, I was down to close to 190- and that was pretty darn lean for me. If I got down to sub 200's again, someone would probably ask if I had cancer.

Yea you're just a big dude. /Jealous!

I just downloaded the app. I had forgot that I downloaded it a couple years back and deleted it. I am going to try and do better at keeping it updated this time.

Eh... I can tell you a few things that would slow that jealous feeling down- like absolutely hating to fly because the seats aren't far enough apart or wide enough. I hated that part of my last job. Don't ask me about the flight that was supposed to be two hours but turned into 6 because the cabin wouldn't pressurize and we were too heavy to land- so the plane literally circled the airport with the landing gear down until they'd burned enough fuel weight to land. Same space principal applies to a lot of restaurant tables/booths. And rental cars should the need arise to drive one.

I can pretty much forget about buying the shoes I like and just get the ones that will fit. I did order a pair of Red Wings last fall, but had to return them because I just couldn't take the hard flat bottoms. Oh- and I crush the life out of tennis shoe padding pretty fast.

I could go on.
