Getting in shape for summer... who's in?

That's funny stuff right there. I look at Crossfit as a type of exercise, like P90X. Sure, they don't lift 1000 lbs. once, but they can run, jump, and lift their own body weight many, many times. And do it and not die shortly after. Don't even get me started on the flexibility. But, to each his own.
Run, jump lift.....barely......I can still knock out a solid APFT.
Flexibility.....I ain't afraid to say, I do yoga once a week....it's definitely a necessity if you're packing on muscle

You're right about yoga. But it's been my experience that a lot of weight lifters do not do enough cardio. The APFT never has been a serious challenge for me, especially when adjusted for age.

I jumped the gun and started getting myself back in shape in October. I started by taking baby steps with simple eating habits. Then I started running and doing moderate lifting. Now I'm getting back into the martial arts where I trained for 20+ years and fought competitively for 6 years. I taught 150+ students here in D'ville back in the 90's. I had put on an extra 40 pounds working nights and generally being lazy over these past couple years. I'm 40 years old now and don't need to let myself go. I was a little bit ashamed of myself because I used to stay in good shape always, religiously, but decided it was time to do something about it. I'm now close to 30 pounds lighter and feel I should probably lose 15-20 more. My next goal will be to stop dipping. I have been dipping since I was 16 years old. I figure I had better lose all the weight I can lose (while remaining healthy) before I finally quit. My son is 1 year old today :) and I don't want him to grow up watching me dip. He's the main reason I want to stay as healthy as I can for as long as I can. I had him at 39 and was a little late to the father game. I want to be there for him as long as possible. He should not be deprived of having a healthy father all thrugh his growing up years, and beyond. It really means a lot to me to get back in good shape and stay there. I wish all of you trying to better yourselves the best of luck.

Good for you MRH.

For anyone that has a smart phone there's an app called my fitness pal. I started using it and really like it. It keeps track of what you eat as long as you enter it in truthfully.

Yeah, great app, we were talking about it earlier in the thread. I'm actually friends with a few ODT'ers on it now. Hit me up if you're interested.

I have made calisthenics part of my regimen for over thirty years. For those looking for a place to start, here's a cool website on pushups.

I have made the decision to lay off of weight lifting and letting my only strength training be natural with my own body weight. The only exception is the "ballistic ropes" that I have been using for upper body lean-development.
