Ok guys, getting close to that time again! Giveaway Day 2012 will be May 14th this year.
In case you are new and have no idea, Giveaway Day is something we do on the closest Monday to May 16th every year. (Started last year) We do it as a sort of an anniversary celebration for the site, as it was started on May 16th, 2010.
About every 15 minutes or so throughout the day we give away all sorts of items ranging from guns to flashlights to holsters, etc. Last year we even had a custom shotgun made for the event that we gave away, here is a link: Anniversary Mossberg
Last year most of the items were donated by members of the site and various vendors that are members of the site. This year it will hopefully be a mix of site funds and donations from members and vendors.
If you have something you would like to donate please send me a Private Message with what the item is and I will give you a shipping address. Whenever your item is given away you will be given credit for donating it. Please only donate items with a value of at least $15, or pool smaller items together so they at least meet that value. Also no ammo unless you are a manufacturer/vendor and are willing to drop ship the item after it is given away. Last year I found that ammo was difficult and expensive to ship.
If you don't have any items to donate but would like to contribute some cash to the event, you can click the "Store" tab at the top and purchase the item "Giveaway Day Contribution." It is $10, if you would like to donate more just increase the quantity of the "item."
Thanks guys, I'm sure we will have another awesome Giveaway Day this year! And we will definitely be doing another custom gun of some sort, just not sure what it'll be just yet.
Update 1
I’ve decided to try and plan out the day a little better this year. Last year it was pretty chaotic, I’d just go to pick up some stuff and list it every few minutes. This year I’m actually going to try and plan it all out and try to have a steady stream of cool items.
I’m going to try and do 55 or so Giveaways, that’s one every 15 minutes with a one hour break around lunch and a one hour break around dinner. I’m also trying to get the average prize quality up some, last year we had a couple high-dollar prizes but overall the average prize was in the $10 - $15 range. I’m going to try and get that number closer to $35 - $50 this year.
I’ve got 12 of the 55 prizes ready to go. If you have something you’d like to donate to the giveaway shoot me a PM and let me know what you have. Any items worth $20 or less will get put into “grab bags” that will have a few things in them to get up to the prize level I’m shooting for. Please no ammo unless you are a dealer and are willing to drop ship it to the winner, I found ammo to be a pain in the butt to ship last year.
I’ve got a budget of about $1,000 to fill the coffers in the week before the giveaway. The stuff I buy will depend on what gets donated. If we have a lot of stuff donated then I will use the money to buy some big prizes, if we don’t get a lot of stuff in then I will use it to buy a bunch of $40-$50 prizes. Either way we are going to have a good time!
Update 2
I've got some final details for every body:
1. There are 57 total prizes
2. The 7 "biggest" prizes are only open to supporters, the other 50 are open to everyone. As long as you are a supporter by the time I draw the winner you are good to go.
3. 90% of the prizes have a value of at least $30, with the most expensive being about $300.
4. All firearms have to be transferred via an FFL, just a CMA move for me.
5. Giveaways start at 7AM and run til 10PM, with a break from 12-1 and a break from 6-7. I'll start a new giveaway every 15 minutes or so, and each item will be open approximately an hour. After an hour I close the thread and draw a winner.
6. We'll do some small practice giveaways on Sunday night so everyone can get a feel for it, prizes will be $5 to $10 in value.
