Example of a neck shot vs “behind the shoulder”/gut shot from this morning.
Ya’ll tell me which one you’d rather eat lol.
Obviously I saw the ribs off of these and hose the crap out of them but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s been marinating like that on the inside against the tenderloins and backstrap for who knows how long it took the hunter to get it to me.View attachment 8236192View attachment 8236193

Perfect illustration.

I have only double lung shot deer and it's never looked nearly as bad as the example above. That said, most people here are probably far, far more experienced hunters than me. The worst I have seen for bloodshot blew up a shoulder and I have no idea how the deer managed still to do a death sprint. Was not my shot though.

I learned something new. Thank you.

Caliber selection plays a huge role, a ton of people can’t hit the broad side of a barn so they get the biggest rifle they can, aim center mass, and hope for the best.
Had one guy that passed away a few years ago shoot nothing but 338 Lapua
(and loved telling anyone that would listen about it)
I have another “sharpshooter” that shoots some fancy custom rifle chambered in 7mm STW that cost more than his truck.
(he too loves telling anyone who will listen about it lol).

I know a guy like that too. Had an Army vet laugh at him one time when he was talking about his cannon. Vet told him, “A well placed .22 LR will kill anything on this continent.” Took the wind outa his sails pretty quick.
