Glock OR M&P OR XD

How small is "smallish"?

Kahr PM9 or PM40 SUPER small, awesome ergonomics. 6-7+1 capacity Expensive($550-800)

Taurus PT111 or PT140/145 Smaller grip size than Glock, M&P or XD. xternal safety, some people aren't sure of quality but I've loved them when I've had them.

Glock 26/27, 19/23. The grip is not an issue for me, seems like TRUE quality is out of some folks grasp ;) BEST customer service in the industry BAR NONE. look up Glock torture test, Glock quality, etc.. Several threads here that linkl the testing and requirements for Glock. Even if you had to learn it and adjust to it it would be MORE than worthwhile.

But then I LOVE my Glocks, ALL 4 of them.

I've had em' all. I really like the XD. Every one of them I've owned has been great. Since you carry a 1911 the grip safety shouldn't even be noticed. That is unless as I do, you grip the pistol low when operating the slide. As much as I like these pistols, the slide movement being blocked by the grip safety tends to interfere with my handling of them to often to suit me. My 1911's never give me any trouble about how I grip them when operating the slide. The Glock's are super reliable, but they aren't nearly as comfortable for me to shoot naturally. I have to acclimate myself to shooting Glocks. Once acclimated though, I have to say the Glocks shoot. I can tear a target up with mine. The Smith M&P pistols without the mag or manual safeties are the most ergo friendly pistols for me. The M&P 9C is a pleasure to shoot, very compact, and mine has been super reliable with anything fed. It fits my hand well, and it's the choice my wife made for her exceptionally small hands. I still own 3 Glocks, because I still like them and I fully trust them. For me though, the M&P is my favorite in the poly framed pistols. Small differences separate them. I like em all though, as others have said, you can't make a bad choice with any of the three you're considering.

I have owned the S&W, XD, and the GLOCK and even the SIG, but none compare to the Glock its great for the everyday carry and just feels great even with the Houge slip-on. Try them all if your billfold will let you. But for me it's Glock all the way. Good luck with your search.

Great info guys, I appreciate it. I wish there was a "local range" closer than Stone Mountain. I need to check and see if there are any ranges out in Loganville or Monroe as I am not too far from either I could check em all out at. Unfortunately the billfold won't let me buy all of them so I need to try to figure it out prior to a purchase or trade.
