I've got a G31C(ported) with a 40 conversion.
I've thought the same thing before- but I think it's less expensive to just trade/buy for a ported one.
Assuming an average machinist is $90 per hour (kind of cheap) and the time to get the thing clamped up correctly is about five times the time required to actually cut the holes, I'm thinking your into each part for at least an hour. So maybe an hour each for the slide and the barrel.
The gunsmiths I know charge more- at least the ones I'd recommend to a friend.

Just a starting point if you can't find anything, rock your glock does some great work. My friend had his G20 ported from them and they did a fantastic job, labor is eh ok I suppose.
ive got a g22 with a spare g17 upper so im on the market for your type of upper, maybe we can work a trade my 40 upper for your 357 upper? we can work something out if your interested. i got to sell this sks i just got to make some funds
