I have a gent in Griffin that is a wiz with fixing these rifles, better than taking a loss....

I always worry about any M1 Carbine without a sling, somebody didn't care to equip it correctly. They look neckkid (Grizzard) without one.

The slide rail is worn. Common on worn out carbines. You should have gotten a refund. Seems a bit high for a non-functional rifle. Only thing left of real value is the bolt ($70), trigger group ($125), and slide ($55). Stock is firewood. Unless you have tools how do you get the barrel off. It looks very worn anyways as it almost swallowed a 30.06 round. Better to show MW with a 30 carbine round. Probably go straight to the case.

Sorry bro....Shrevy should have stood behind this piece. He is a standup guy. Did you contact him???? I would have given you one for sure.

He sells and collects a lot of carbines. I bet this was built up from a barreled receiver or a boltless rifle. He bought a bunch the day I was there. I got a mint Underwood BR.

Shrevy is standing behind his gun. See the post above yours.

However looking and Shrevy's ad, I really can't say I see any wrong doing. No where in his ad does he mention firing the rifle, or state it to be reliable. He just says what he has and then has a crap ton of pictures showing just about every part of the rifle. Had he just shown the rifle, I could see it, but he went so far as to take the receiver out of the stock and shoot pictures of all the internal workings.

Its a bummer it is a crap pile, but my guess is you are the first one to try to shoot it since it left the CMP. While I agree it sucks to get a lemon, It doesn't look to me like Shrevy intentionally sold you one, and quite the opposite actually. From the problems you are describing, I would imaging that somebody who knows about M1 carbines would have been able to see a problem from one of the MANY photo's provided.

Bum deal all around.

Sorry I admit I jumped the gun with this post as I was super angry when I dropped that new slide in last night and then popped it back out just the same as the one I thought was worn out. In my defense though really, the price he was asking originally was in line with what correctly functioning rack grade carbines were going for at that time given that they had just recently sold out at the CMP and were starting to go up (hence why I was willing to quickly trade off 3 of my milsurps for it!) and when we met in person we talked about shooting and I assumed he was talking about having shot this carbine when the subject of carbines came up. The pics also show the bolt forward completely in all the pics so you can not see the worn spot that causes the whole problem nor would I have noticed it to begin with given that this was my first m1. The pics look overall like what you would expect a cmp refurbed gun to look like and I didn't think the CMP would've missed that. I havn't yet contacted Shrevy but he has offered to make good, like I said I was emotional when I wrote this post and I really didn't feel like I could civilly contact him directly. Now that I've had time to cool off I will get back to him.
