Good folding knife

I was thinking 30-40 bucks, somewhere in that ball park? You know he is a youngster so something "cool" but I want it to last as well.

For Christmas 2000, my brother had small Case knives engraved with our initials and the year. They would have been that much with the engraving.

Jbum,
One of my favorite lines of not-so-expensive USA-made knives is the SOG Twitch/Blink series. To my knowledge they are the only SOGs built in the US anymore and Amazon sells 'em pretty reasonable. I've got an all-black Twitch II I got from BladeHQ a year or so ago I sometimes carry and The smaller Twitch I is a nice little Sunday knife. They're all assisted flippers.

My favorite right now is a Gerber Guardian.
At walmart for $10. ( holiday item)
Half serrated.
Spring assisted opening.
holds a edge just like all gerbers do tough to sharpen but holds it longer.

cold steel recon 1 tanto blade...amazon has them for <100$, probably chinese though

I would hate to think someone would pay $100 for a knife made in China. Although I do like and have and carry from time to time the Rough Rider pocket knives. Nicely made on old time patterns w/ nickle bolsters and brass liners. I would suggest Buck, Case or Schrade folding lock backs that come with the leather pouch you wear on your belt.,

This is presorted under $100. Lot's to choose from. You can narrow the search by manufacturer. The descriptions are detailed and can be helpful.
